Welcome to the wide crazy world of TJ Klune

As you can see, this is a blog (a blog, you say? You're like the only person in the world that has one!). Here are my promises to you: I promise to up date this as much as I can. I promise that at some point, you will most likely be offended. I promise you may suffer from the affliction the Klunatics know as Wookie Cry Face. I also promise to make this some place where you can see how my mind works.

You've been warned.

This Is Me A Bit Pissed Off

My apologies, but this is going to be a rant of sorts.

I've been thinking lately, as I am approaching the first anniversary of BOATK.  In the past year, what has changed?  No, I'm not talking about me, the highs and lows I've been through over the past year.  No, I'm not talking about the m/m publishing world, or the publishing world at large.  This is not about that.

I'm talking about the world as it means for a gay man. I'm talking about what it means for the GLBT world at large.

Today, I posted a meme regarding how people view the GLBT community being parents on Facebook.  It's one of those pics I'm sure you see on FB walls all the time.  There's anger there, the idea that those of us that are GLBT are not held with the same respect and/or views that straight people are.  It's a sad fact that, even in 2012, there are still many, many people against us.  And not just being parents or active parts of a functioning community.  People are against us for existing, as if we are not made from the same God that made them.  God, they say, did not approve of what we are.  God, they say, thinks of us as an abomination.  We are abhorrent.  We are evil.  We are sin personified.  We go against his word and therefore, we should be strung up like we are animals, like we are nothing better than the dirt beneath their feet.  To them, we are nothing.  To them, we are WORSE than nothing.

But you know what?

You want to know FUCKING what?

We are better than that.

We are stronger than that.

We are GREATER than that.

And, unfortunately, we've still got a ways to go.

The tide is changing, yes.  People are more open than what they were before.  At least, some of them are.  How is it, folks, that we are in such a modern age, yet still governed by ideals that seem so ancient?  How is it that, given who we are, we can still feel hatred for our fellow man/woman/child?  There's anger on both sides.  There's hatred on both sides.

And I'm sick of it.  I'm so fucking sick and tired of it.

I want the fucking world to change.  I want to be able to love who I want without prejudice.  I want to be able to eventually say, without receiving judgment, that THIS is my family.  THIS is who I am.  THESE people are who I choose to love.  Part of me says it's too much to ask.  Part of me says that, regardless of how I feel and think, the world won't change.  Part of me is crushed DAILY by the hatred I see.

But you know what?

There is a small voice that screams louder than the rest.  There's a small voice that says we have the capacity for change, that we can do what we need to  welcome anyone that needs us.  That we can make the world a different place.  That we can make it better.

Fuck.  I'm pissed.  Seriously pissed as I type this.

But, I’m also hopeful.  I’m also wishing.  I’m also fucking praying.

So, you know what?  Make the fucking change.  Today.  Now.  While we still can, while it still matters to the ones that follow us.

MAKE THE FUCKING CHANGE.

  1. I love this post. I love the anger with the hope underneath. My mom taught me three lessons. One, everything happens for a reason. Two, no matter how bad it gets, things will get better. Three, every experience, good or bad, teaches us something good and we grow from both the good and the bad. I believe this with all my heart and it's why I consider myself an optimist, why I've never considered suicide, why I have lived my life as I am and not as others would want me to.

So thanks TJ, for this post, for your work, for everything.

  2. It's about time somebody took expletives to the next level in describing this. I raise my cup of tea to you, sir. Of the points you make, the one that sticks with me the most is people being angry that we exist. We've been here before, we're here now and we'll be here in the future. That's not going to change. But people are going to have to.

  3. This is awesome. I love this. I also pray that the world will change. I pray to God that he will show the haters that He loves us LGBT folks as much as he does the rest of His children. I pray constantly that something will happen soon.

  4. I know what you're saying, but things are changing.

When I first came out in the 70s being gay was still illegal in Australia, now we have huge support from the majority of people and Tasmania is even working towards legalising gay marriage. There is still a long way to go, but things are changing all the time. The "love that dare not speak its name" has become a lot more visible and is finding acceptance everywhere.

The opposition to GLBT comes from a minority who are proving themselves less and less relevant the more they screech hysterically. I think their hysteria is actually helping us in that they are showing themselves for the bigots and mindless haters they are and the majority of people just aren't like that.

    Just a thought...

  5. TJ, I use the word fuck a lot when I'm pissed too. Someday people will look back, and little kids will disbelieve their parents when they tell them there was a time when the laws about who you could or couldn't marry and the attitudes about who loved who made as much sense as signs saying 'whites only' on a water fountain. Someday it will happen. And it will happen because of you, and me, and every single person out there who believes that, and stands up for it in whatever way they can. Keep hoping. Your hope, and your words are pushing us in the right direction.

  6. Here's what I don't get. Why do these people think hate is the appropriate reaction to something they *think* God doesn't like? Because as far as I can tell, if you actually read all of the Bible, not just the parts that some loud people tell you mean one thing or another, God is all about love, not hate. And if someone is not a religious person, or of some faith that has a different doctrine than the Bible, why do they give a flying flip about what anyone else is doing that has nothing to do with their own activities? I'm so sorry that anyone is making you so mad and sad just for loving who you love. It's crazy. Great post. Stay mad until someone makes you glad.

  7. TJ, just because some people want to live in the Dark Ages doesn't mean you should let them get you down. The best revenge you can get on those screwups is to ignore them and live your life joyfully! :)

  8. The one thing that permeates through all religions is that we should treat our fellow man (and woman and child) the way we ourselves want to be treated. If everyone followed that, if everyone started to act according to that gospel, there would be no hate.

Don't let the haters get you down. Live your life, love who you want and don't let anyone tell you what to do. God loves all creatures.
